OU Football stops Jim Nagy as General Manager

The University of Oklahoma has appointed Jim Nagy as General Manager for Football and introduced a new structure to deal with the developing challenges in college football. Nagy will work closely with the head coach to build a championship caliber.

Who is Jim Nagy

Since 2018, Nagy, as the managing director of the Senior Bowl, the most prestigious college all-star game in the country, has been presenting the designable college football player, where he was responsible for identification, evaluation, setting and selection of the best NFL outlook that should be invited to the game. In his role, he cultivated relationships in the entire college football, the Agent community and all 32 NFL front offices. In the last five play cycles, the senior bowl has produced more than 100 elaborated players a year, which corresponds to more than 40 percent of these NFL design classes.

Last year the Senior Bowl had a total record of 110, including 45 of the 100 best players and 10 picks in the first round. Almost two decades before this position, Nagy served in various scout capacities with the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins. During his 18 years in NFL front offices, his teams played in six super bowls and won four Lombard trophies. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

Nagy will monitor the roster management, the acquisition of talents, the recruitment of the players, the evaluation, storage and zero effects. His role also covers navigation through the transfer portal, the scholarship restrictions and the requirements for approval.

“This is a new era in Intercollegiate Athletics at one of the largest college football programs in the country,” said Nagy. “The legacy of excellence that precedes my arrival is proof of the leadership at OU and the commitment of the university, at the championship level. It is an honor to bring my experience and working morality to this program, and I am confident that we can achieve excellent results through cooperation and effort.

The new model reflects professional sports structures in which the GM and the head coach work closely together. Randall Stephenson will act as the chairman of the President's football and special consultant, monitor this partnership and offer specialist knowledge for budgeting and strategic planning.

Head coach Brent Venables emphasized Nagys Scouting and Recruitment Competence, which will strengthen the OU squad. The President of the University, Joe Harroz, explained the confidence in the future -oriented approach of the OU and the team's ability to continue to build football programs for the championship.

“The work required for the administration of a duty plan, including contract negotiations, gaming assessment, strategic planning, recruitment and commitment, requires full-time focus and skills,” said OU head coach Brent Venables. “Nagy's top-class, comprehensive experience in scouting, recruitment and staying of top talents pays off in our squad and ultimately in the field. I look forward to working with him and the athletics director Castiglione when we look great things for OU football.”

Joe Castiglione, director of OU athletics, emphasized the need for innovations to manage player contracts, recruitment and resource assignment and praised Nagys experiences. Stephenson noticed the changing landscape of College Athletics and underlined the need for a GM -like Nagy to adapt to these shifts.
