Over 41,000 people in the US immigration custody, 55 percent without a criminal register

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has expressed concerns about the latest data from the immigration authorities provided by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). From February 9, the immigration and customs authority (ICE) kept 41,169 people in detention facilities in the USA.

Satnam Singh Chahal, Executive Director of Napa, said an important result of the data shows that 22,538 prisoners who make up 54.7 percent of those in ice custody have no criminal record. Many others were arrested due to minor crimes, including traffic violations, and they were concerned about concerns about the widespread detention for non -violent and low violations.

Texas was identified as the highest number of ice halves in the 2025 financial year. Ice and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested 21,959 people in January 2025 alone. The Adams County Detention Center in Natchez, Mississippi, turned out to be the largest detention center for ice cream in the 2025 financial year.

The ATD programs of ICE (alternatives to liability) currently monitor 188,304 families and individuals. The San Francisco region monitors the highest number of people inscribed in ATD monitoring programs.

Chach emphasized the importance of transparency and fair treatment in the implementation of immigration. He asked the political decision -makers to re -evaluate the effectiveness and necessity of mass detention, especially for people without criminal history or only minor violations.

He found that the number of Indian prisoners is not yet available among general prisoners. However, he emphasized the need for detention centers to play a constructive role in relieving the emergency of the prisoners in an immigration crisis.
