Pavilion/bathroom project in Sault's Rotary Park Set for the spring start

Sault Ste. Marie – The Sault City Commission is moving with a project to build a new structure in Rotary Park.

The Rotary Park is located directly outside the downtown of Sault and is a joint meeting point for various events in the course of the year. There is no permanent structure for regular use, but the city and local Rotary Club have collected funds in recent years to change this.

In 2013, important upgrades were made in the Rotary Park, including play equipment, hiking trails, lights and fishing platforms. City officials said that these upgrades had made a major contribution to improving the park and promoting the public use of the room.

The 2013 plans initially contained a pavilion in which a bathroom structure would have been accommodated. While the structure was never built, members of the Rotary Club said that the need for such a building had only increased in the years since then. The pavilion and bathroom project is included in the latest 5-year leisure plan in the city.

With the help of a scholarship for natural resources in Michigan, the city will build a pavilion/bathroom directly in front of the island in the center of the park. The building comprises new water and sewage pipes, a parking space, lawn recovery and landscape design, ADA -accessible picnic tables, baby changing stations and a water well or a water bottle filling station.

After completing the project, the old pit toilets in this area of the park are removed.

The design phase for the project has been completed and the plan is now being checked, the construction work begins in the next few months.

The offer for the project was awarded on Monday, March 17, in the amount of $ 369,246 to Cardinal Plumbing at the city commission meeting, which is less than the original planned budget.

The Rotary Club has collected more than 100,000 US dollars for the project through donations and fundraisers.

“We are very pleased that this progress,” said city administrator Brian Chapman at the meeting of the Commission. “We will bring the building up and running in spring and it should happen until the end of summer.”
