The Paint Valley Bearcats have a new head coach who hires John Penwell to fill the vacancy by resigning Corey Dye, who is now a defensive coordinator at Miami Trace.

John Penwell has been a co-trainer in Paint Valley since 2021 and acted as a defensive coordinator in 2023-24. Penwell said Garbage media– – “It is an honor and privilege to be part of the football tradition of SVC and Paint Valley.”

Penwell has a different experience in the head coach, who heads the Adena Warriors between 2016 and 2020 and brings them to playoffs between 2018 and 2020. During his time in Adena, Penwell led the Warriors to the SVC Gold Football Championship 2020, the school's first playoffs and was appointed SVC, District and Division VI Trainer of the year. His career coaching record is (30-21). Before he became head coach at Adena, he was co-trainer there between 1998 and 2006.

John Penwell completed the McClain High School in 1990 and played College Football at the University of the Cumberland. He later trained Whitley County, Kentucky, Trimble County, Kentucky between 1996 and 97 in 1995. Between 2007 and 2016 he worked as a co-trainer at McClain as a defensive coordinator.
