Peoples Gas gives customers tips to avoid fraud – Butler Eagle

Peoples's natural gas recently gave tips on avoiding and refuting fraud.

The company recalled the fact that a representative does not require personal or financial information. All official incoming calls come from a 1-800 number and do not ask you to pay with a gift card or a prepaid card. The publication found that the company will not threaten immediate termination.

“If a customer of the people is exposed to the interruption of the non -payment, we state several notice of termination and … work with customers to set up payment agreements,” the press release says. “Check whether the call is legitimate by hanging up and returning to the utility yourself.”

Personally, the Peoples gas workers have to wear a photo ID, almost always drive company vehicles and never go from door to door to see bills.

If a customer receives a suspicious call or a home visit, the company recommends contacting its customer service center under 1-800-764-0111. The company also promotes contact with the law enforcement authorities.
