Person saved, dog injured in two merids: civil servants

Meriden – Two house fires on Friday in Meriden injured a dog and forced the occupants to evacuate according to the city's fire brigade.

Merid fire brigade people said they had reacted to Blazes in two hours after single-family houses in the 10-block of the Fair Lount Street and in the 100-block of Wall Street.

In the House of Fair Lount Street, the respondents saved a man caught on the roof and a dog, while the homeowner of Wall Street House was safely reported outside, a contribution that was attributed to the deputy fire chief Cristina Schoeck on the city's Facebook page.

“It was a perfect storm,” said fire chief Ken Morgan about the two fires – and a crash – which took place in Meriden on Friday.

Morgan said the dog was injured at the crime scene of the Fair Lount Street Fire and received some oxygen before a private vehicle transported it to a veterinarian. He said the dog was “not in good condition”, but from Saturday morning he received no updates from his status. Otherwise, Schoeck said that there were no injuries in both fire.

Firefighters said they received calls on Friday at 11:03 a.m. about the Fair Lount Street Fire and reacted to Wall Street Blaze shortly after 12:40 p.m.

According to Morgan, the Fair Lount Street Fire was uninhabitable, with “considerable damage” on the second floor. He said Flames came from the windows on the second floor and a back balcony, and a room on the first floor had also caught fire. He said firefighters had taken control of the flames in about 25 minutes.

Schoeck said that the inmate of the house was outside, but a spectator entered the burning house to try to save the injured dog. The spectator was unable to find the dog and then couldn't make it down the stairs again, so he climbed out of a window onto the roof.

Schoeck said that the fire service companies reacted to the fire of the Wall Street for mutual help and “quickly” put it down. She said the homeowner was safe and an ambulance rated the person.

Morgan said that the incident was over 45 minutes.
