Pfandrechte and Breigan Garner All -Merican awards for NCAA interiors -Utsa athletics

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A pair of UTSA women’s track and field underclassmen notched All-American accolades on Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, competing in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Freshman Mia Lien and sophomore Ida Breigan added to their own honors case, while becoming the 11th and 12th Roadrunner women to garner indoor All-American laurels.

Kicking off the day in the pentathlon, rookie Lien (Jakobsli, Norway) notched a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles section with an 8.82-second clocking. She followed up with a sixth-place height of 1.75m (5-8.75) in the high jump section and notched a 9.01m (29-6.75) measurement in the shot put. Her best finish of the day, Lien hit 6.09m (19-11.75) to finish fifth in the long jump and then cut close to her PR with a 10th-place 2:19.90 in the 800-meter. In total, Lien collected 4,031 points to finish 14th in the field and register Second Team All-American status – becoming the first Roadrunner to earn NCAA honors in the event since Ryanne Dupree was fourth in the event in 2006. Lien was the American Athletic Conference champion in the pentathlon, earning school records in both the overall event and the high jump on a meet record. She was also second in the high jump and was awarded one of two UTSA AAC Field Most Outstanding Performance honors.

Right on the heels of Lien’s finish, 2024 Indoor All-American Breigan (Fredrikstad, Norway) reached 6.35m (20-10) on her third jump, logging a 10th-place finish in the event and earning Second Team All-American in the long jump – her third in as many opportunities in her short career. With the third honor in the books, she ties Jody Dunston (1987-89) for the third most-decorated Roadrunner woman in program history. Breigan defended her American Athletic Conference title two weeks ago and was also awarded AAC Field Most Outstanding Performance.

With Lien’s and Breigan’s competitions in Virginia Beach complete, that closes the book on the 2025 indoor track and field season. Focus quickly shifts to outdoors, where the Roadrunners will open up hosting the UTSA Invitational at the Park West Athletics Complex from Friday, March 21 – Saturday, March 22. The field will feature eight-team field features East Texas A&M, Incarnate Word, North Dakota State, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and TAMU-Kingsville, in addition to the Roadrunners.
