Bradenton, Florida – Paul Slenes will begin on the opening day for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Quite a simple call for managers Derek Shelton.

Slenes achieved a dominant performance in the majors in his first season. The 22-year-old right-handed man went 11: 3 in 23: 3 with an ERA of 1.96 in 23 starts for Pittsburgh and won the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

The pirates released a video on social media on Saturday, in which Shelton Skenes informed about his decision.

In the video, Slenes goes to Shelton's office and answers a few questions about how his bullpen went and how he felt. Shelton later got up behind his desk and informed Skenes that he will start in Miami on March 27th. He shook his hand with Slenes and hugged it.

“Congratulations, brother,” said Shelton in the draft from 2023 to number 1.

“Appreciate it,” replied Slenes.

The 22-year-old Slenes have worked on integrating a cutter and a fast ball with two souls, which is accompanied by his flowing fastball with four stens.
