Pirates record the 78-76 senior day victory over Charlotte

Greenville, NC (ECU Athletics) -RJ Felton scored 27 points when East Carolina defeated a comeback attempt in the last minute in the Minges Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Charlotte (78-76).

Jyshayne Woodard added 14 points and five rebounds, while Jordan Riley had a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Pirates (17-12, 9-7 AAC), which has had its first winning season since 2012-13.

After a slow offensive start from both teams, Charlotte took the lead with less than eight minutes in the first half before the pirates went an 11-0 run in the guidance of a flood of points from Felton to go with 25: 19 to 25: 10.

The Niners closed the gap in front of half as a basket of the second chance and a score of a pirate turnover tied the game with 27: 27 during the break. After Charlotte achieved the opening basket of the second half, the pirates took control by exceeding Charlotte 21-7 to achieve a 12-point lead with 13 minutes. ECU kept its two -digit lead in the second half down the largest part of the path, but Charlotte found a way to make things interesting to make ECU interesting to lead only seven points with 1:14.

Riley met one of two free throws with a 56-second lead to offer ECU a small breath at 78-70, but the Niners came down and beat a three and followed this game with a steal and three more to pull within two points within two points.

After a Miss from ECU, Charlotte had a last chance to bind or win the game, but Woodard was able to disturb just enough Graves' play winners and Felton secured the rebound and victory for the pirates.

  • The start of five from Hayes, Felton, Hayes, Walker and Laberaux started for the fifth game in a row and the 17th game this season.
  • Jordan Riley got a high season of 11 rebounds and recorded his second double double of the season.
  • RJ Felton scored a field gate in 91 games in a row and said goodbye to Sam Hinnant for the fourth of all time in the career with 224 threes.
  • The recorded number of visitors of 5,115 were the largest home group of the season for the pirates.
