Pletcher accepts seven days of suspension for betamethasone positive

Todd Plletcher | Sarah Andrew

Trainer Todd Plletcher has accepted a seven-day suspension from Horseracing Integrity and Social Unit after a horse from his barn has been positively tested for betamethasone.

“After Todd found out about the claim, Todd carried out an internal investigation and found that he and his team pursued all the schedules and protocols that were created by HISA,” said Drew Mollica, lawyer of Pletcher. “Despite this fact, the test in the horse system seems to show a trace amount and instead of argue, Todd made the cautious decision to accept and continue the punishment, to get this matter behind and to develop with the Triple Crown Trail business.”

The Pletcher-trained Vassimal (Nyquist) was tested positively for the medication, a long -acting corticosteroid with immunosuppressive and anti -inflammatory properties after he had broken his virgin in the Gulfstream Park on December 14th. The 3-year-old Colt returned a Tampa Bay Downs allowance on January 17 and was last fourth in the Gii star quantities on the GII.

Pletcher's suspension begins on March 4th. In addition to the suspension, vassimal is disqualified and his profit participant is expired and the trainer is fined a fine of $ 1,000 and 1.5 penalty points.
