Possibilities for defense by three football practices in Florida

“Mussels.” That was the story from the third spring practice of Florida Football. The term would only be interesting if they were on the beach. It is even less fascinating in the context of College football. But on Tuesday, the Gators took the next step of the prescribed spring football plan of the NCAA and put the helmets without a caps and shoulder pad-mussel-an-to when they completed their third practice.

The rising second quarterback DJ Lagway dressed as well as the rest of his teammates, but as in the past week he did not throw. Similarly, the junior defensive Aaron Gates, Dijon Johnson and Sharif Denson did not participate for the third practice in a row, since they continued to recover from the injuries suffered last season. Nevertheless, newcomers, transfers and other opportunities to take up urgently needed repetitions and to rise in their place have buried opportunities.

Each of the 12 players and coaches who spoke to the media in the first week of training mentioned the word “opportunity”. With a roster with over 130 players, many do not get the most common repetitions during the autumn camp, while most people do not see the field in the regular season. Spring football is the chance – an opportunity – for Florida's “Lost Boys” to have their moment while others rest.

The rising reddish in the second year, Cormani McClain, is one of the most remarkable players who have entered the open repetitions. The redefine in the second year had an abnormal route to UF, which started in Boulder, Colorado, before moving to Florida as a preferred walk-on last summer. He played economically in autumn, but with a long time in the field this spring he starts blooming.

“He works really hard, not only on his craft, but also to be the best person he can be every day. He grew up a lot, ”said Tyreak Sapp Tyreak, Senior Defensive. “Cormani will be dangerous. This child, he is quickly in the way he understands the game. He only has a knack for playing the corner. He understands how to play corner. “

In a world of college football, which quickly develops, McClain represents a consistent piece of spring plan. In this offseason, the redshirt added more than £ 20 in the second year and focused on maintaining its speed. This has already been translated into the field this spring, with the trio of the junior starter rehabilitation rehabilitation. As a former top 10 recruit, it is not surprising that he cuts off well, but with his TMZ profile-like journey, his growing maturity has caught a few eyes.

“Cormani was phenomenal,” said UF director for strength and conditioning Tyler Miles. “And not only in weight. He has led very well. I am very proud of Corani McClain. He only knows what to expect.”

While he has experienced more in two years than most others, he seems to find his place with additional repetitions – the beauty of spring. However, McClain is not the only flourishing contribution by Florida with an unexpected practice period.

In a frequent topic of conversation in the offseason for Florida football, the freshmen quickly find their place. This is the most remarkable in the line of defense, with Jalen Wiggins and Jayden Woods progress as early participants.

There are many similarities between Redshirt Senior Edge Rushers George Gumbs Jr. and Tyreak Sapp. The couple are loud guides who do not hesitate to express their opinions and to support them in the field. So far, they have emphasized an opinion: Woods and Wiggins will contribute to this.

“He is pretty good,” said Gumbs Jr. about Woods to open the media availability on Tuesday. “I just watch him hit boys and I like 'Oh my god.' I know that some of the tight ends and duels only hate to see him on the side because it is borderline lines against violation. “

Sapp shared a similar thought about Wiggins and emphasized the couple's upward trend.

“Kid has a high ceiling,” said the redshirt senior position group leader. “He is a hard worker. It is very trainable, as I said [Jaylen] Forest. But he has a lot of potential. He got a high ceiling. So I have the feeling that his best days are in front of us. “

Wiggins and Woods are top 200 recruits and TOP 20 Edge -Rushers in 247Sports recruitment rankings, and three practices are already clear why. While Florida's line of defense contains several veterans, they used the repetitions in this low season. In Wiggins' case, so much that he has built in with his teammates in just seven days.

Towards the end of Gumbs Jr.'s first press conference, he announced that Wiggins started the nickname “The Preacher”. Why?

“He is about to bless someone,” replied the redshirt -Senior. “He is a pretty strong guy. He made some plays and pretty processes [he’s] Very aggressive in the run. “

As the employees and players outlined in Florida, spring offers a chance. For some it is an opportunity to come early and establish yourself. For others it is a time to take advantage of additional repetitions because they finally try to penetrate Florida's list. For everyone, it is an opportunity for them to “bless” someone while touching the field for the first time in months.

Most people look forward to spring and autumn and rightly. But Spring Football is the platform that the players start in the Sec -Stardom. For the defense of the Gators, the increased repetitions could bring an improvement group to the top of the conference, supported by an increased depth.
