Post Match: Punt Off | The third sub

The Vancouver Whitecaps pulled 1-1 with CF Monterrey in the Concacaf Champions League campaign. From the outside it seemed to me that both teams somehow united this game. Vancouver made 6 changes compared to their previous game (one of which was forced due to Sam Adekugbe's injury) and Monterrey turned completely by 10 changes. The first half had the energy of the episode of the office, in which Michael Scott eats a few pasta before led 5 km. Vancouver's need to score a goal gave them a little more life in the second half and finally they received a deserved balance from Belal Halbouni.

First let's get the obvious out of the way, the Whitecaps deserve to win this game. They seemed to be Monterrey 21-7. I don't have the XG, but you don't need a doctoral thesis to say that the white caps create much more dangerous chances than Monterrey, especially in the second half. But what does it mean to “win” if the opponent only tries to get out without injuries?

The whitecaps also played a weakened side, but they still took them more seriously than Monterrey. Ultimately, I am not sure whether we have learned too much about the relative strength of the team. There is also the question of the second stage of the tie.

With her only dangerous chance of the game, Monterrey achieved the all important away destination. The Whitecaps employees apparently have a perspective that shows the goal of being on the side. The fact that eyesight did not see the final perspective was proof of poor production, no conspiracy. In any case, the whitecaps must now achieve something that is not easy to do in Mexico at least once in order to advance.

In another night, the Whitecaps would have been a bit lucky and won this game 3-1 and completely changed the dynamics of the second leg. But sometimes happiness doesn't get in the way. Monterrey may have been lucky, but they won the barge. Nevertheless, there is some hope. The second leg is played due to a conflict with a Shakira concert on the home site of Santos Laguna.

Speaking of bad luck, I think Ali Ahmed was very effective again. There is a world out there in which Maxime Crepeau is a little more and Ahmed is a bit happier and it would be instead of being seen as the revelation instead of Jayden Nelson.
