Preliminary groundbreaking date for Jonesboro Sportsplex

Jonesboro, AR – (Jonesbororightnow.com) – March 4, 2025 – The steering committee met on Tuesday morning to provide updates from the upcoming Jonesboro Sportsplex project and to announce a temporary groundbreaking date.

The groundbreaking date is temporarily set for April 11th. In addition, the committee would like to conclude the building contracts from March 17th to 18th and briefly determine the financing rates.

Representatives of the A&P Commission, the sports facility company and more spoke about the design of the building.

Since the floor plans were unveiled in April 2024, some improvements for the overall design are taken into account. Designers consider to push the reception back into the main entry, and offices are originally on the first floor in the second to prevent overcrowding in the entry.

“It will be much better to use this room to breathe the building,” said Erik Kocher, owner and design director of Hastings and Chivetta Architects.

Craig Rickert, executive director of the A&P Commission, said that all design changes are “fair suggestions” and do not have to go through the Commission. He added that those who are involved in the project will continue to work with architects to “find the best solutions”.

The two -story, 203,000 square meter building will include 12 basketball courts, which convert to 24 volleyball spots. The same room has space for 36 pickle balls.

It will have a 50-meter pool with diving boards and a heating/cooling pool for leisure shots. The complex also has an outdoor aquatic center with a pool, a moving water feature, a large film and other spray devices for children.

In the second history, areas for the dishes, the pool and much more will be seen, but also have two smaller meeting rooms. In addition, 1,245 spectator seats will be with a view of the 50-meter pool. The complex has 678 parking spaces.

In a meeting on February 10, the Jonesboro Advertising and Promotion Commission agreed for the use of Capital One as the preferred financier for the project, since he “cheaper conditions and interest rates”. The plan is said to have blocked an installment by March 5.

The complex will take an approximately 36 hectare location in the Race Street. The A&P Commission acquired the property from Arkansas State University in January 2023.

The complex is expected to cost 74.6 million US dollars. The aim is to complete the project in 18 months and open in late summer or early autumn 2026.
