Amazon will bring a dedicated linear channel onto the market in two European countries, which offers a curated selection of Prime video original series, sports and other content.

In an interview with the Trade Publication DWDL, Prime Video Germany, director Christoph Schneider said, said that the channel – called Prime – will be available via the Prime Video app for members in Germany and Austria. The goal of Prime is to advertise shows in the prime video -app that customers may want to look at.

Prime will contain a limited number of advertisements, said Schneider, but the number of ads that are broadcast in a certain hour will be much less than conventional television channels.

Schneider also made it easier for German and Austrian members to find shows, but said that Prime should offer a simple point in our prime video universe with a linear content delivery, with which most television viewers in Europe are already familiar.

Streaming platforms are gaining in important European areas to the foundation stone element, but linear public service and commercial broadcasting networks continue to have an overly large influence on the shows and films that people see there.

The Prime Video app already offers access to most German and Austrian public broadcasters, including ARD/the first, ORF and ZDF. The Prime Channel is programmed in a similar way to the functionality of these channels, with the company heading its best programs during the Prime Time hour.

In this sense, the linear main channel essentially differs from ad-supported contents that can be found in Pluto TV and others, since it does not necessarily offer a play list of shows that are delivered the marathon style. Instead, Prime will have its own brand and programming strategy that resembles a traditional public service or a commercial television program in both countries. It will also promote when certain air and at what times show.
