Propan -Leck to Albany Plant – Albany Herald

Jim West

Albany firefighters were called to the M&M Mars work on the Oakridge Drive in Albany on Thursday when plant employees discovered a trifantling behind the main building.

Officials from the Albany fire brigade say that the firefighters were asked at some point around 9 a.m. to supervise the repair of a 25,000 gallon emergency prone tanks that ended out of the auxiliary valve. M&M plant officials had discovered the problem and prepared to correct it before the fire brigade was alerted, said the deputy fire chief Rubin Jordon, who was on site.

“They knew what to do,” said Jordon, “you have just called (the fire brigade) as a precaution – to make sure you did it right.”

Jordan said the valve was designed in such a way that the pressure within the tank, which had the capacity at around 50 percent, was probably due to the recent cold weather. The tank is unloaded and unloaded, whereupon the faulty hardware is replaced by staff at M&M Mars, said Jordon.

According to Jordon, plant officials were made aware of the propane problem when someone outside the facility recorded the characteristic propaneuch. There was never a real danger for providers and nobody was evacuated, said Jordon.
