Proud of the best start in 12 years – the Hofstra chronicle

The women's Lacrosse team at Hofstra University has its best start in 12 years with its 17:11 victory against Fairfield University on Saturday, February 22nd.

Nikki Mennella continued her scorching hot start into the season with five goals and three templates. Julia Harris scored Mennella with five goals for her first career hat trick.

Mennella leads the team with 24 points in just three games this season and leads the team with 12 templates. It is also connected to Kayleigh Bender to lead the team in goals with 12 goals each.

Bender, Kristen Redding and Kate Lemery each scored two goals, while Megan Flannery added his own goal for the pride.

The pride has now started for the fourth time in the program history and for the first time since 2013 with 4: 0, which was also head coach Shannon Smith's first season with the program.

The pride scored the first five goals of the game in just more than four minutes. Mennella scored her first goal in almost five minutes in the first quarter. Redding scored two goals in 45 seconds before Harris scored her first goal with a little more than six minutes a quarter.

Mennella wasted no time with her second goal, won the Draw Control and only scored 11 seconds later when the pride received the first quarter 5-1. She ended with 11 draw controls a day, which was most of a member of the pride, since Kerry Walser had 12 against Drexel University on April 27, 2024.

Flanny and Harris each scored a game 7-2 before Mennella completed their hat trick for about 18 minutes into the half.

The pride seemed on the way to a further win of blowout when Mennella, Lemery and Harris extended the lead to 14: 5 with almost five minutes in the third quarter. However, the deer found their insult and identified the rest of the game 6: 3.

Fairfields Grace Slater led her team with four goals in the game, which was followed by Amanda Kozak with three goals.

Christine Dannenfelser led the Hofstra defense with three sales caused, while Brynn Heinge had two own. They had a yellow card late in the fourth, which led to two goals for Fairfield to reduce the Hofstra lead to 16: 11 with almost five minutes.

Despite the sloppy defense on the route, the pride recorded when Harris published the game with her fifth goal after the final result of 17: 11.

Hofstra will search for her first 5-0 start in the program history when you compete to Princeton University on March 1st for Princeton, New Jersey. The first draw is scheduled for noon.
