PSG 0 Liverpool 1: Match Review

Neil Atkinson's review after the game for the Anfield Wrap according to PSG 0 Liverpool 1 in the 2024-2025 Champions League last 16 …

Where do you start?

A million places to choose from.

You can start with a club that has a thousand options in Europe over the years.

You could go with the goalkeeper who once again demonstrated that he was the best.

You could talk about the clean sheet, the classic European approach that deals with the modern era. Run your intestines to bring a European outfit from Crack back to our place to show you what is. The relapse.

You can talk about the forgotten men who are linked. Football miracle weekly, season after the season. And the unlikely heroes that make them available.

But I want to start with you. With Paris Saint-Germain. Soft at my age, you know; I lose my edge. It is to remember what your possession is, but then to remember who your support is and how proud you will suddenly be from a team, devastating in your own picture. They were wonderful until they were not tonight. They were the best team that Liverpool was faced with all season.

And then the inspiration went. I understand it. I lived it. Liverpool teams lived that were on the climb but are unable to convert or even to fight well. This moment of: “Oh. Oh God. The.”

They are so good for so long that they create the positive profits of this Liverpool victory. There is no nobility in a recuard campaign against Trottel. Only against champs.

Ousmane Dembele sometimes runs unplayable, but you have to play it. I have to find a way to defend it, which is not about winning, but it will be a matter of definitely not losing.

The reason why football is not a basketball and the reason why football is better than basketball is that they both dominate and can do it in order. You can be the second best, but the structure can mean that this does not lead to punishment. You could have a compilation produced by Dembele how Liverpool players look stupid tonight, but at no time he gets a clear shot.

Even the basketball players know that. That they are dealing with in the round. Too often there is a desire to reduce the game in this era to the compilation, but Dembele himself goes home because he lost because he won, he could never win so well.

He is not alone. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a beautiful player. Everything balance and power. Everyone also spends like Dembele this season. He is a confused footballer, the essence of the clichéd player who was withdrawn red meat. He takes great chunks out of the game. But even he cannot get exactly enough, cannot become completely undeniable.

Because Alisson Becker. Because the best goalkeeper in the world has a special evening with everything he brings to the party. Every special rescue and special thrive. He does it like no one else. That is important. This is part of the magic.

His Brazilian compatriot and competitor at Manchester City appears like no one that they have ever seen. But Becker, Becker makes every other part of the goal maintenance as a completely unique statement.

The best conventional goalkeeper on the planet is Thibaut Courtois. Courtois was built in a laboratory. He is like a bathroom in the boys. It is a spectacular mechanism. Inspector Gadget meets Dolph Lundgren.

But Becker was built by Angels, by artists, of jazz musicians. He is Miles Davis in a good day and adds a flourishing by only at the moment he had to exist, it feels like it always has to be there. He has redefined the position if someone can keep up with him. One day the children will always come from behind.

Trent Alexander-Arnold does its best performance of the season; The essence to win the right battles, lose the right battles and pull the right battles. The essence of calm under fire.

You can't win them all. We know that, we know that, but we also understand the difference between loss and pass on. We understand that we hold each other. We understand that we dig deep.

He and Andy Robertson did both. They are wonderful players, but tonight are brilliant warriors who understand the goal of every battle in staying intact to fight the next.

You would probably have taken 1-0 with 53. If you had made aware of, you would have seen two teams who were 65 strictly. In 78 years I said with Steve Graves: “I am 0: 2. Owen. Rome.”

I would have been on a tie on 83 a.m. And then that. That.

It was a winner in slow motion. You can see that Darwin Nunez survives Marquinhos and suddenly opens the entire field. The ball was perfectly weighted. And there it was. You are always unlikely men, don't you? Again and again.

The three u-bootes, apart from the excellent Curtis Jones, had moments this season when they didn't feel that they would fit, and then they are perfect in Paris and each of the three adjustments, find their moment and press back into the Liverpudlian folklore.

It shouldn't work that way, but that makes football. The rarest night, in which Mo Salah and Ryan Gravenberch are neglected, there is suddenly Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott. Incredible seasons are created by the solid and most reliable and excellent footballers. But the seasons are garnished by the support files that steal a scene with enthusiasm, and we are blessed with the most wonderful scene stars.

Elliott is the biggest of us, precisely because he wants to be. We love the way this city works, those who love us who want. This end is full of the end of the outside of those from the outside who just want to be pure and nobody should ever stop them.

Wouldn't he be enormously talented? He would be the highway up and down and for anyone who would listen to knock over the red. His Liverpudlianism is as important as any other; He moved to the city to try. Transplants that he can play with the boys on Saturday.

He had moments, but suddenly he could have the moment. The moment that sets a European odyssey. The moment that offers the springboard.

And urgently needed. Return to where we started – Paris is good. Paris are very, very good and Paris are able to win in Anfield. You could have taken away the bond from the Reds in 30 minutes tonight. You know, I know. And so they could win with us. We shouldn't be complacent about it. Liverpool must be good next week. Very, very good.

But I support them. I support you and myself too. Where do you start when you're not finished yet? It is only half time and we reach the second half to soundtrack. We can set the scene. We can carry out the second part of the classic European performance, but none of it happens with complacency.

It is possible that it is half -time with the only team in Europe that is able to keep a candle to Liverpool. I'm not so sure, but I am absolutely sure that this is a Liverpool team full of courage, excellence and determination.

More come. Enjoy it. Setbacks and football miracles. Arne Slot is something special; His team is something special. His team is something we saw before. You build on what they were on the back, they build on the back of what was.

Where do you start? Well, on such nights; Happy nights, determined nights, wonderful nights, they somehow want to say and go from there in 1892.

Liverpool. Promise.
