Here is a current football story of the AP:

London (AP) – The FA Cup could still be a way for Manchester City to end a disappointing season with a trophy.

City needed two goals from the teenager Nico O'reilly to defeated 3-1 with 3-1 on Saturday to achieve the quarter -finals of the only competition that it still has to win.

On an eventful day in the competition, two remarkable red cards, a seven-minute Var check, a handshake Snub and a tense penalty shootout were also brought forward when Crystal Palace, Preston and Bournemouth were also advanced.

The biggest topic of conversation came in the early game, in which Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts was sent because of an extremely ruthless challenge, which left the pre-striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who needed 25 stitches on one cut on his ear.

The Star striker of Wolves, Matheus Cunha, was sent in the last minute of extension against Bournemouth because of his opponent's head – after he had previously achieved an excellent balance – before his team lost in punishments.

The victory of City, on the other hand, was relatively routine, although the PEP Guardiola team had to wait until the 75th minute to find a winner.

O'Reilly was on the hand to drive in a corner, and Kevin de Bruyne then added the third goal in the 90th after he had scored Haaland, who had scored as a replacement when the score was still 1-1.

“It is an astonishing feeling to score, especially in such a club, the team for which I grew up,” said 19-year-old O'reilly.

Plymouth had taken the lead through Maksym Talovierov in the 38th when City looked at another embarrassing defeat in which it had already seen that he ended the English League Cup and the Champions League while leaving Premier League leader Liverpool with 20 points.

But O'Reilly honored itself shortly before half -time with another header after a delivery from De Bruyne.

“The most ruthless challenge”

Palace also won 3-1 against 10-man Millwall after Roberts had been sent in the face in the eighth minute due to steps Mateta.

Roberts' wild attempt to give approval led Mateta to be worn on a stretcher and taken to a hospital with head injury. The chairman of the palace, Steve Parish, described her as “the most ruthless challenge on a soccer field that I think he'd ever seen”.

Mateta stayed on the floor for a few minutes to maintain medical treatment before it was equipped with a neck clip and was worn by the field towards an ambulance. Palace said on Saturday evening that the striker had been released from the hospital after he had received “25 stitches for a severe injury to his left ear”.

Palace took over a 2-0 lead through his own goal from Japhet Tanganga and a simple tap-in by Daniel Munoz, but Millwall came back into the game when Wes Harding scored shortly before half-time. That came in the 14th minute of the injury time after the long interruption for the treatment of Mateta.

Striker Eddie Nketiah, who came up for Mateta, added the third with a loop header in the 81st to secure a place in the quarter -finals.

Penalties, Var and Red Card

In Bournemouth, Cunha scored with a spectacular long-distance goal to a dispute with Milos Kerkez, where he first pressed, stepped and finally fought his opponent.

After a 1-1 draw, the penalty shot also had its share of drama when Wolves had the chance to win him after goalkeeper Sam Johnstone saved the fourth kick from Dean Huijsen. But Matt Doherty dragged his punishment wide, and Boubacar Traore also missed wolves when his efforts hit the crossbar before crashing the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Luis Sinisterra converted the crucial Spot kick for Bournemouth.

Cunha, the leading goal scorer of Wolves, would certainly be among the penalty customers of his team if he had still been on the field. Previously, he had excluded a long-distance strike that came to the top of the network in the 60th minute to cancel the start in the first half of Evanilson.

Bournemouth believed that it achieved a 2-0 lead when Kerkez met a corner with a header that came from Huijsen. But after a long Var check, Huijsen was ruled off the site.

Osmajic in the center of the Preston victory

Preston also reached the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win against Burnley. It was a rescheduling of her meeting two weeks ago in the English second division when Hannibal Mejbri accused Burnely Prestons Milutin Osmajic from having abused him racistically during the game.

The game on Saturday began with the fact that Burnley's players refused to shake Osmajic, but the Montenegro national player replied by scoring the second goal shortly before half -time and then ran to his ears to the visiting fans.

Robbie Brady had scored the goal by equipping an excellent free kick in the 31st minute, and wants to add the third in the 74th.
