Published hostages Omer Wenkert, Eliya Cohen Leave Hospital and finally go home

Before he entered his house, Wenkert sailed into an Israeli flag, stood on the doorstep, kissed the mezua and recited a blessing. Inside he hugged his parents, family members and close friends. Then he lifted a glass of wine with his parents that shone with joy.

“I dreamed more than 500 days from that moment. It's finally here. I'm glad I never stopped believing – cheers,” he said. “It's not over yet. I join the fight to bring my brothers back Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Evyatar Davidwho stay in Gaza and all hostages. We won't rest until you are all at home. ”

“Omer defeated captivity – as he put it, he overcame it,” said his father. “We are deeply moved by the love and support of everyone. It is a great pleasure – thank you, the Israeli public because you have celebrated with us. Omer is at home, but we don't celebrate yet. We are waiting for all hostages to return. He still has two brothers, guy and evyatar.

His mother Niva repeated the feeling. “Thank you. Our trip is not over yet. Guy, Evyatar and 22 living hostages are still in the Gaza. We have to bring them home – together with those who have been murdered. We want every family to experience the same hug with a loved one in captivity.”

Wenkert's grandmother Tamarzur also wrapped himself in an Israeli flag. She clapped when her grandson returned and warm hugs from which they received around them. “I didn't breathe for 505 days while Omer was captive,” she said. “My wonderful Omer is at home. May all of the hostages come back!” She then screamed with joy: “Omer is here! I'm overjoyed – it gives us strength. It is incredible.”

“Omer Wenkert, who was approved last Saturday, was released today after the necessary medical tests were completed,” said the Rabin Medical Center in a statement. “He will start on an outpatient hospital. The hospital will continue to support Omer and his family and make sure that they receive all the necessary care.”

Wenkert danced again last week – more than 16 months after the kidnapping from the Nova Music Festival. In an Instagram post he wrote: “It happened. I was free” and shared a video of himself with his father. “There is no price for freedom. I almost forgot how cute and beautiful it is,” he added.

Former hostage Eliya CohenWas also released from the Rabin Medical Center on Tuesday and arrived in his house in Tzur Hadassah. “Eliya, who was taken to the hospital last Saturday, was released after completing the necessary tests and will begin outpatient rehabilitation,” said the hospital in a statement.

“Many thanks to each of them for the fight to bring me home, whether he screams my name in protests, hugged my mother or sent Challah and cake on Fridays,” said Cohen emotionally.

“Each of you contributed to the fight – this is not my moment, it is everything to us.” Cohen emphasized that the mission was not over yet, and raised a shirt with a photo by Alon Ohel, who was kidnapped with him and is still being caught. “We all have an important mission and it is not over yet – we all have to bring home!”

Cohen was kidnapped together with his partner Ziv Ziv Avod, the nephew Amit Ben-Avida and his partner Karin Shwarcman from the Nova Music Festival. When the surprise attack began, the four later hid the “Protection of death.” Amit and Karin were killed on site and Cohen was taken together with three other capture-Goldberg-Polish or Levy and Alon Ohel.

Ziv Avod, Cohen's partner, survived the events in the shelter in a miraculous way. After the kidnapping it became known that Cohen had proposed her and even bought a ring. Last week, Ziv said that evidence of other published hostages showed that Cohen did not know that she was alive.
