QR codes, security numbers to prevent leaks

The department for school education in Telangana has brought increased security features for the public exams of the SSC exams to prevent questions from March 21st.

This year, QR codes and unique security numbers are contained in the exams of class X QR (Quick answer) and unique security numbers on each page. These measures enable the authorities to pursue and identify the source of all unauthorized information.

Officials stated that if questionnaires photographed, copied or shared on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, the origin, including the specific examination center, can be followed. The initiative reflects a similar security improvement carried out by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) for intermediate exams.

“The introduction of QR codes and unique security numbers strengthens examination security and facilitates the detection and persecution of leak incidents,” said Krishna Rao, director of government exams A. Krishna.

The decision follows several cases of question paper leaks reported during the SSC exams in 2023. Two separate incidents led to the suspension of supervisory officers and civil servants of the examination center. In one case, a supervisory staff recorded and distributed the paper of the first language (Telugu) within minutes after the examination of WhatsApp. The next day, the second language's question paper (Hindi) was leaked through in a similar way.

In addition to securing questionnaires, the CCTV cameras department has used in all examination centers, whereby the focus is on the CS room of the boss superintendent (CS). The middle heads were instructed not to clear the questionnaires before 9:15 a.m. to ensure stricter handling process before the exam time from 9:30 a.m.

The authorities believe that these measures improve transparency and deter the attempts to impair the integrity of the examination process.
