From March 17 to 23, 2025, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified as a annual leak week, a nationwide campaign that aims to promote water protection by approaching the household injuries. According to the EPA, household leaks can waste more than 1 trillion gallons water nationwide every year.

To support this initiative, Rancho California Water District (Rancho Water/District) offers a number of events and resources to support the municipality in identifying and repairing leaks, saving water and reducing the power invoices.

Free recognition of outdoor workshops and leaks

On Tuesday, March 18, at 6 p.m., Rancho Water organizes a free community workshop with which the residents can recognize outdoor leaks. This event aims to educate the participants about how they can determine whether they have a leak, locate their source, implement preventive measures and decide whether they should repair it themselves or look for professional help. The workshop is carried out by experts from the G3 Gardens Group, and all participants receive a free gift.

Free leak kits

In order to further promote the detection and repair of LECKS, Rancho Water offers its customers free leak kits during the leak week. These kits include a garden hose nozzle, a water tap, drip measuring device, a hose repair set, toilet leaks, toilet flapper and a practical guide to support home owners in general sanitary repairs.

Activities of the children

Rancho Water is committed to the younger members of the community and offers activities of children who focus on leak detection and water protection. Visit the LECK website for downloadable activity sheets and coloring books to engage children with entertaining opportunities to become a leak detective.

Additional resources for leak detection

Rancho Water offers several resources to support customers in identifying and removing leaks:

  • 10-minute challenge: Encourages the residents to check their houses for 10 minutes on slight leaks such as dripping taps or running toilets.
  • Deleting recognition course: an online course under the direction of Gabriel Michael von Blue Watchdog Conservation, Inc., the topics such as recognizing signs of leaks, the localization of the source and the steps to repair now covers.
  • DIY videos: A instruction video that leads the viewers through isolation, localizing and fixing leaks and homeowners helps to act efficiently.

By participating in Fix in a leak week and the use of the resources provided by Rancho Water, residents can play a crucial role in maintaining water, the protection of the environment and reducing their water bills.
