RCFD give carbon monoxide tips after two deaths in Rapid City

Rapid City, SD (Kota) – Two people were found dead on Monday morning from a possible carbon monoxide toxicity.

At around 9:25 a.m., the Rapid City Police was called in the 1400 block of the Fountain Plaza Drive to react to two non -reacting people in a motorhome.

When medical staff arrived, they found two corpses with a strong smell of exhaust gas vapors in the entire motorhome as well as propansehousing and a gas generator inside.

Preliminary evidence showed carbon monoxid toxicity in the entire motorhome.

Ethan Esposti, a fireman and paramedic at the Rapid City Fire Department, requires the use of portable heat sources inside safety precautions.

“You want a three-foot security group in these areas to ensure that we have no fire risks, that there are no children around them. And if you use these heating sources in a closed room. Make sure you use carbon monoxide detectors and make sure that you do not integrate them when you leave the room, ”said Esposti.

Esposti has added a proactive prevention of carbon monoxid toxicity with cars so as not to start a vehicle in a garage. Instead, you should have your car warmed up outside.

Early stages of carbon monoxide poisoning can include light capital, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Symptoms on higher levels can be fainting and falling into a coma.

Esposti said when you feel that you and your family should leave your home and call 911.
