Reagan football promotes Preston Meyer to head coach

Reagan defensive coordinator Preston Meyer was promoted to Cheffuss trainer during the North East Isd School board on Monday evening.

The 45 -year -old Meyer was an assistant under Lyndon Hamilton for four years, who resigned from Reagan after eight years to become head coach and sports director at Gonzales.

“I am humble, excited, I can't wait to get to work – all of this above,” said Meyer. “The children never blinked during this entire process. They dismantled their cocks and only excited me to keep it running. “

Hamilton was 66-26, won three district championships and made the playoffs in each of his eight seasons. Reagan was a model of consistency after making the post -season in 18 of the past 19 years. Meyer does not expect a big revision in his football coach at Reagan.

“We have had enormous stability here at Reagan for many years at Reagan,” said Meyer. “What we do at Reagan is not broken. There was a culture of excellence that was created here, and it is really important to maintain and build it on it. “

Meyer completed Sabinal in 1994 and played football with Mary Hardin-Baylor. He began his coaching career as an assistant to Killen Ellison before walking in Temple in 2011.

In Temple he worked under Mike Spradlin as part of a staff who took over a 1: 9 program that played for a state championship in 2014, a game in which Aledo 49-45 enforced for the title of class 5a Division I.

Meyer went from Temple to Brandeis, where he trained under Jeff Fleener and David Branscom. Afterwards he became a defensive coordinator at Reagan four years ago.

Meyer believes that there will be a smooth transition to the role of the head coach.

“They are responsible for many more people and it is a much larger role, but the coach of football is to train football,” said Meyer. “I don't see that much differently from this side. That is probably the simpler part of the job. The more difficult part of the job is everything else that goes hand in hand. “
