Records that are defined and bound on the last day of the swimming meeting of District 10

play

Genefe, Ohio – McDowells Owen Sarbak and Corry Logan Amy reached for unprecedented times during the swimming meeting on Saturday during unprecedented times.

Each determined during the session in the Natatorium of the Spire Institute.

However, Maria Costa from Cathedral Prep did something harder. The recruit of James Madison University agreed to meet the hundredth second.

The trio emphasized the second and last afternoon in the Olympic caliber pool, where the district has found who has been progressing for the Piaa meeting for more than a decade.

Maintain a family success

Sarbak was expected to build a new district record for its 100-yard backstroke in class 3a boys long before Saturday. The top time of the second segment of 50.82 seconds was faster than the 51.03 mark, which McDowell graduate Jonathan Ekas founded in 2014.

Sarbak solved the name of Ekas from this special psychiatra with its two rounds in 50.65.

“I'm happy about it,” said Sarbak, “because it gives me the opportunity to (go to go) and try to get an even faster time.”

The 100 -back record has highlighted Sarbaks a maximum of four victories. The son of the former star of Edinboro University and the Eriesee swimmer Gregg Sarbak was therefore elected to meet the outstanding 3A boys.

“(The) awards mean a lot to me,” said Sarbak. “It shows that I can do more in the next few years of my high school career.”

In contrast to Sarbak, Amy's record was not expected.

Not even from the Corry senior.

Amy was classified at 1: 00.32 in class 2a boy 100 breast swimming behind the General McLane favorite by Brody Caldwell (1: 00.25).

The rival of Lancer would not have been satisfactory enough for Amy, which he did at 57.62.

It was only when the announcement of the meeting address of the meeting heard that the veteran of the Beavers learned that he also broke the record of the district.

Amy's time condemned the 58.39 standard that the senior Matthew Hinman prepares as a newcomer.

“I didn't think I would take first. Not at all,” said Amy. “I thought I would be third or fourth. My goal was only to be finished in less than a minute. That's it.”

The record fascinated Amy because his foot rose from the Schott after the first round.

Four victories and a tie

In her last appearance of the district, Costa tied his 2A girls 100 -Backstroke record. The senior agreed with the original mark of 55.02 that the former team mate of Villa Maria, Megan Maholic, was founded for the first time in 2022.

That was the last year for the Victors swimming program. The Catholic diocese of Erie closed the West Eigthth Street School in summer and made preparation for a coed campus.

Costa was a four -time winner in her two days at Spire. She will complete her career as a university swimming career at Bucknell later this month.

“It really didn't hit me yet,” said Costa, “but I know that it will be so. I'm really excited to see what I can do (at James Madison).”

Costa recently signed a national substitute for intent with the Harrisonburg school school. She will fight coach Dane Pedersen and Division I Dukes, which are members of the Sun Belt Conference.

Another unprecedented success

The district records for Costa and Sarbak were X factors when the coaches voted for who received the outstanding swimmer prices of the meeting. They were presented to their respective 2A girls and 3a boy strophies, which were sponsored by the Erie County Aquatic Hall of Fame.

Preps Jack Raimy (2a Boys) and McDowells Raelynn Schwab (3A girls) were also honored.

According to Meet Director Bob North, Schwab was the first newcomer to the district. The Trojan in the first year ended her weekend with four wins with the gold medals on Saturday for 100 (59.63) and as an opening leg for her 400 Free Relay (3: 50.06).

“This whole year was fun,” said Schwab. “I can't wait until next year.”

What's next

The gold medalist of the meeting qualified for the Piaa meeting from March 12th to 15th at Bucknell University in Lewisburg. The 2A competition comprises the first two days in the Kinney Natatorium, followed by the 3A events.

Although only the title lists of the district automatically move into states, other people and relays from the northwest of Pennsylvania could agree if their times are low enough for the Largen berths.
