Red flag warning for Comal County in the middle of fire risk problems

Comal County, Texas – Tomorrow a warning was issued for the red flag for the entire area, as strong winds and extremely dry conditions were expected, which spoke out concerns about potential brush fires.

Kory Klabunde, Comal County's fire brigade marshal, advised the residents of the Hill Country area to remain careful.

“There is always a fire risk in this area,” said Klabunde.

Despite the extreme drought conditions that are plagued by the district, the area has not yet fulfilled the threshold for the implementation of a ban on combustion.

However, Klabunde emphasized the importance of vigilance, especially since the extreme weather conditions could affect the area.

“Even if it rains and so where there is a lot of fuel load from last year … Low humidity, high wind speeds are always a factor in this area, together with the hills and valleys and things it can quickly create a risk of fire,” he said.

Klabunde warned that wind speeds could be gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and a considerable risk.

“This reason for concern and could quickly get out of control, and the fire could spread very quickly,” he said.

When the conditions become serious, Klabunde said that they would be monitored by the entire district because fires from various sources could ignite.

“We get many fires on the sides of the streets at this time of year, under these dry conditions, from supporters who pull out the change of blown out tires, something that throwing cigarettes out of the window,” he said.

For residents at home, Klabunde advised to take precautionary measures to prevent fires.

“Make sure that everything you have lit recently has been completely deleted. If it is a large stack, make sure that it is covered with quite a lot of dirt and stuff to stop the embers in the next few days,” he said.
