Red Sox Righty compete “frustrated” after the start after the rotation; “Emotions are high”

Fort Myers, Fla. – Quinn Priest is one of four candidates who fight for the last two positions in the Red Sox starting starties.

Manager Alex Cora mentioned how important it is to throw strikes while discussing the candidates on Saturday morning.

A few hours later, Priester took the hill and went through the second and fourth play battery. The priest threw 62 parking spaces, 38 for strikes (61.3% strikes). He allowed three runs, all deserved, six goals and three walks while scored four in 2 ⅔ Innings.

“Frustrated,” said Priest. “Must be better. There is no better way to say that. I think the Breaking balls saved me more before giving up. But in the end I have to be better with the fast balls and I think many of these runs come off the board. I think (if) we run fast balls, we better throw them, these balls become bad balls and then we can keep it honestly with a few things.

“It just has to get better and we will do it,” added Priest.

Garrett Crochet will be the opening starter, followed by Tanner Houck in Game 2 and Walker Buehler in game 3.

With Brayan Bello, Lucas Giolito and cutter Crawford begin the season on the IL, which leaves two rotation points open.

Cora appointed priests, Richard Fitts, Cooper Criswell and Non-Coster Invitee Sean Newcomb as the four best candidates who fought for the two places.

Priest had difficulty saying what exactly prompted him to throw his fastball on Saturday.

“It's so difficult to say. I think the emotions are ultimately high, frustration is high, ”said Priest. “So I can think of a million different things about what went wrong or what could have been wrong. Couldn't the sink sink? Couldn't the sinker do exactly what he usually does? Did the cutter stay a small arm from time to time? Secure. But that will happen in every start.

“I think for me this emotion is for me this next working week,” he said. “But in the end, as soon as it calms down, you get a more realistic feeling for exactly what happened. And then, as I said, get back tomorrow after. “
