Richland County Sheriff offers security tips that went through ice after the vehicle on the Grass Lake

Lidgerwood, ND (Valley News Live) – One person died after their vehicle drove through the ice on the Grass Lake in Lidgerwood on Sunday, March 2.

“This sun reflects the houses and it forms. It melts snow and ice around the house. With the wind conditions it continues to whirl around and worsen the ice, which may have happened, ”said Gary Ruhl, Sheriff Richland County.

Officials said when they arrived, they carried out a search for the area in which they found the driver dead in open water.

According to officials, the vehicle was bathed in about 12 feet of water.

Ruhl gave a security procedure if someone tried to save a person stranded in the water.

“Stay calm, stay calm. Have a plan. Don't enter to help a victim. You know if you are one of the rescuers. Otherwise you will probably get into the same situation, ”said Ruhl.

The law enforcement said that she removed the person from the water and carried out an underwater test of the vehicle.

Ruhl mentioned what to do in a situation in which the weather is warmer and the fish house of a person is on a frozen lake.

“If possible, if you notice a lot of water around your fish house, just move it over 20 feet or whatever to get out of this point. Or if you don't want to move it away, ”said Ruhl.

The cause of death is an autopsy, but the officials say it seems to be drowning.

Ruhl also says that when you try to save someone in open water: a long pole, a rope or a board, preferably throw it on the individual.
