Rodney McMullen, CEO of Kroger, steps back WSB-TV Channel 2 after personal behavioral investigation

The CEO from Kroger resigned from the company abruptly after an examination of his personal behavior.

The company said Rodney McMullen's personal behavior was “inconsistent” with the ethics guidelines of the company, CNN reported.

The examination of McMullen's personal life has started after the company had “made aware of a certain personal behavior that he had carried out, but had not entered details in order to clarify that it was not associated with Kroger's“ financial performance, operation or reporting and no Kroger employee was involved.

McMullen has been in the company since 1978 when he started as a part -time officer in Kentucky in Kroger. During his almost five decades of career, he held several positions, including Chief Financial Officer and board member. He was selected as CEO in 2014, reported the Wall Street Journal.

After his term in office there had been a contract with the competitor of Albertson, but was taken off the table after the Federal Trade Commission, under the government of President Joe Biden, had sued to block the merger that would be worth 25 billion US dollars and had combined the fifth and tenth largest food chains in the USA in December.

Albertsons sued Kroger for breach of contract.

Ronald Sargent was appointed interim CEO on Monday until a permanent replacement was found, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sargent has been on the Koger board since 2006 and has been the company's main director since 2017.
