Ron and Casey Desantis play Golf with President Trump when Florida's race around 2026 heated up for the governor

The governor of Florida, Ron Desantis, went to social media on Tuesday to share a photo of a golf trip that he and his wife First Lady Casey Desantis had with President Donald Trump last weekend.

Desantis's move comes as the race for the successor of the temporary conservative governor, whereby Trump Ally Rep. Bryon Donalds announces his candidacy after he has confirmed the president's confirmation, and the top -class First Lady, who recognized that she is considering a run of 2026.

The first couple of Trump and Florida have breakfast together on the West Palm Beach Golf Course of the President last weekend and also played a round of golf.

“. @Caseydesantisteing in Trump int'l in Palm Beach (Birdie on the hole). Casey and @Raldonaldtrump had no problems winning the match …”, the governor wrote in a post in his political account on X.

A Republican source in Florida confirms Fox News that the governor and First Lady used their morning to partly with Trump to the president in order not to continue to participate in the governor, which goes beyond his initial confirmation of Donalds.

The president, who moved his main residence to Florida in 2019, took the social media two weeks ago to write that Donalds – who was a big replacement for Trump on the 2024 campaign – would be “a really big and powerful governor for Florida.”

Trump added that Donalds: “If he decides to run, will have my complete and total confirmation. Run, Byron, run!”

A week later, Donalds announced his candidacy in a appearance in Fox News' “Hannity”.

The conservative former state legislator, which has been representing parts of Florida in the congress for four years, has had a potential governor offer for almost a year.

“I thought about it. I did not rule out anything,” said Donalds last spring in a digital interview from Fox News when he was asked for a possible run for the governor.

Trump and Desantis have a long but sometimes flammable political history.

The President supported the then Rep. Desantis successful 2018 Run for Governor and the two were allies for a few years. But the two GOP heavyweights led a bitter battle in 2023 and at the beginning of last year during a very combative and split nomination race of GOP president in 2024. They seemed to close peace after Trump had won the nomination quickly during the primary elections, and Desantis helped to accept donations in general elections.

After Donalds jumped into the race, Desantis seemed to criticize the congress member and say at a press conference: “I think people look at it and say that they have a man like Byron, he was simply not part of the victories that we have had over the past few years over the left years.”

Since he made these comments, the governor of Donalds has failed to do so, but repeatedly advertised his wife's achievements as Florida First Lady and framed her as a worthy successor.

Casey Desantis was enthusiastic about speculation last week when reporters asked if she would run.

“To quote the late Yogi Berra,” said Desantis when she repeated a famous line of the deceased baseball legend. “When you see a fork on the street, take it.”

The governor then turned to reporters that “you can read what you want”.

Fox News also confirmed last week that Governor Desantis turned donors on behalf of his wife.

When asked about Casey Desantis, Donald told Fox News' Sunday morning futures presenter Maria Bartiromo last weekend that “I remembered in 2018, who for the then congressman Desantis, who had the support of Donald Trump, and that worked great for our state.

“He has a story in which he made good picks, and I think his picks always worked for the Sunshine State,” emphasized Donald.

And he added that “we will take care of the primaries when other people choose the race or not, but we will concentrate on Floridians.”

While Florida was once a battlefield for general election campaign, it is now red – Desantis won almost 20 points in 2022 and Trump was wearing the state in November with 13 points – and the later winner of the GOP primary school will be regarded as the leader in the Governor elections next year.
