Rookie Watch: Michkov, Stankoven among the top players of the first year in the Metropolitan Division

Logan Stankoven, F, Carolina Hurricanes: Stankoven (5-8, 165) was purchased by the Hurricanes in the trade, who sent Mikko Rantannen to the Dallas Stars on March 7. This season he has 31 points (10 goals, 21 templates) in 63 games, including two points (one goal, an assist) in four games with the Hurricanes. His high danger shots on goal (45) landed in the 82nd percentile league and far above the league average (25.5) according to NHL Edge. The 22-year-old, who can play the wing and the center, scored 14 points (six goals, eight templates) and eight points (three goals, five templates) in 19 Stanley Cup playoff games in 24 games of the regular season in 2023-24.

Stankoven was selected by Dallas in the second round (No. 47) of the NHL design of 2021 and remained a season in his three-year entry contract, which he signed with the stars on September 28, 2021.

“He is naturally a really aggressive player,” said Eric Tulsky, General Manager of Carolina. “When the puck is on his stick, it is very harmful to it, it is very aggressive, he attacks offensive. And when he goes and loose pucks recover, he is always the first, he is always there and urges people and makes things difficult.”
