Rugby Sevens Challenger series: Hong Kong's terrible start a 'Reality Check,' says coach

Jevon Groves said that Hong Kong's catastrophic start to her HSBC SVNS qualification campaign was the “reality check”, which requires his page when you try to join the elite of sport.

The men's team had to have a strong start in Cape Town at the weekend and instead managed to lose 21-19 against Madagascar.

Things improved easily, with a comfortable 29: 0 against Georgia and a nervous 21:19 victory against Tonga on the second day, but Hong Kong could not get better in the first of two legs in succession in South Africa than the ninth total amount.

Since only the eight top teams passed the final Challenger series event in Poland in April, the city's men need great performance this weekend to have hope for progress.

“I think it will be very good for us in the long term, only to get this reality check about where we are in the world in this second stage,” said Grove, head coach from Hong Kong.

“As hard as Sevens can be, it can change very quickly. You can have a good day one and then a bad day two – the game is so much an estimation throat. So we hope that we only deal with what we need to get right and what we can control. “
