Santorini tremors lead to positive trends for the Aegean coasts of Türkiye

Turkish tourism specialist noticed a significant increase in early bookings for Türkiyes Aegean coast, since tourists who previously chose Greece change their vacation plans in relation to Turkish resorts such as Antalya and Marmaris due to seismic activity in Santor.

According to the Turkish daily newspaper, recent seismic disorders in the Aegean Sea have strongly influenced tourism in a region that are typically visited by millions every year. Early reservation cancellations on Santorini and the Yamurgi Islands, both of whom are heavily dependent on tourism, have diverted travelers towards Torkiye.

The efforts of the Greek government to mitigate the losses of the tourism sector seem to recognize that Torkiye is well positioned to attract tourists that initially plan visits to Greek islands. Travelers who rethink their vacation plans, since the recent seismic activities choose Turkish goals nearby, increase the early bookings in the coastal resorts of Türkiye significantly.

The Turkish coast are now preferred on Greek islands

Mehmet Isler, Vice President of the Turkish Hoteliers Federation, emphasized the opportunity from Türkiye and found that tourists redirect their bookings from Greek islands such as Egypt with a remarkable increase in Turkish resorts such as Antalya, Fethiye, Marmaris and Bodrum.

“The dressing of this new tourist profile, which had not previously checked, is a happy development for our target market,” he added.

Orhan Belge, head of the Cesme Tourist Hoteliers and Operators Association, emphasized the visible shift towards Torkiye and explained: “The increase in early reservations clearly shows that tourists from Greece move to Torkiye.”

While Belge recognized the sensitivity of the situation, he found that the shift was predictable, and the tourism industry already has an increased activity.
