Sayonara Wild Hearts is a breathtaking pop music game that is now on PS5

Of all my favorite games, Sayonara Wild Hearts could be the most difficult to describe. It is a rhythm game, but you also drive with a motorcycle and a kite, giant swords, while you dodge fireballs and teleport to a privilege world. It is structured like a pop album that tells a story of love and loss, and is told by Queen Latifah. It is Tony Hawks Pro -Kater hits R-Type crossed with Rhythm heaven Like by Carly Rae Jepsen. It makes sense if you play it, trust me.

This was all true when the game was launched for the first time in 2019 on the Switch and PS4 (it was also on Apple Arcade, but has been removed since then). But now it's a good time to check it if you haven't done it. The game, which has just started on the PS5 – is a free upgrade if you have it on PS4 – which adds some performance improvements and a new endless mode called Remix Arcade, which you can read more about here. Really, the new platform is just an excellent excuse to return to this world.

Sayonara Wild Hearts Follow the story of a young woman who is transported to an alternative area in which she has to restore harmony by collecting many hearts. To do this, they play a number of 23 short levels and do everything, from races through the streets of the city to the fight against bikers to the ruins of a destroyed city. It is a game in the arcade style, in which you are looking for a high score through the levels (which you get from the heart and other objects), and most of what you do is in good time until the tact of the dreamy pop music that plays throughout the game.

The game only takes about two hours, but it packs so much in this room. What you do is constant Change. The vehicles switch from skateboards to motorcycles to cars to human flight to dragon, and there are about half a dozen different games, from arcade shooters from the old school to early 3D platforms to racing games. Almost all of these genres are then filtered by the lens of the rhythm effect, an exciting experience that feels very coherent. It is also quite accessible. If you always do not exist in one of the driving sequences from the first person, as I do-you have the opportunity to simply skip it and continue.

Just as important, Sayonara Wild Hearts is incredibly stylish. The dream world is smooth and beautiful, rendered in pink, blues and purple, with characters who dance when they fight, and, um, Mechs from robot wolves. It is as strange as cool and is worn closely together with singer Linnea Olsson by the composer Daniel Olsén and Jonathan. It's all banger and I just listen to it while I am writing this story.

Just like a great album, Sayonara It's something that I keep coming back. I have repeated it several times in the past six years, and every time I was hit by how brave it is. These feelings have not been reduced over time. It helps that it is exactly the right length so that you can easily soak everything.
