School bus catches fire in Cleveland, Ohio: See video

A school bus driver in Cleveland, Ohio, had to act quickly on Thursday morning when the vehicle missing with the students caught fire.

The online video -Hhared shows the yellow school bus, which is completely locked in flames in a residential area and speaks black smoke into the sky. Fortunately, the bus driver had already brought all 15 young people to safety on board at that time.

The shattering ordeal took place, while the driver transported the children to the Monticello Middle School in the suburb of Cleveland Heights.

“I can't express how relieved I am that nobody was injured and I am incredibly grateful for the driver's quick reaction,” said Liz Kirby, superintendent of the school district of Cleveland Heights-University Heights City City.

The school district said in a media publication on Thursday that it would not name the driver who asked not to remain identified.

Fifteen students were quickly evacuated by a school bus driver after the bus caught fire on the way to a middle school in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.

School bus fire in Cleveland Heights started on the rear wheel

The fire broke out behind one of the rear wheels of the bus and prompted the driver to evacuate all students.

When Cleveland arrived Height's firefighters, the fire had used up the bus fully and thick black smoke left around it. Video and photos in social media show firefighters who fight against the inferno before they finally contain it.

“There were no injuries and the fire was quickly brought under control,” said the fire brigade of Cleveland Heights on social media.

In its press release, the school district said that both the fire brigade and Ohio State Highway Patrol examine the cause of the fire.

USA TODAY left a message with the fire brigade and the State Patrol on Friday morning to obtain further information.

Another district bus was in the area and accepted the evacuated students according to the school district to transport them to school.

The district made administrators, social workers, advisors, teachers and other employees available on Thursday to offer the students advisory and support services when they arrived.

The bus that had caught fire had just passed its annual prescribed state inspection on February 14, said the school district and added that “our caution” in the fleet of the district was created again after the incident.

Kirby said that she spoke to the driver who attributed the annual bus vacuum drill driver with students to prepare for the employee for the dramatic evacuation.

“I also have to follow the students so calmly for the reaction and follow the driver's instructions in order to get to safety,” added Kirby.

The school district had no further information to publish on Friday morning when they were reached by USA.
