Screen time: New guidelines published in the screen time and use for young people

Another request from medical experts for parents who can help in combat is to know what their children see on television and social media, especially in adolescents.

Doctors say that this is as important for children and their brain development as a healthy meal instead of junk food.

Imagine this as a roadmap that can navigate through the complex world of teenage videos.

The new 32-page report by the American Psychological Association in cooperation with YouTube describes important tips for parents, including an important point.

The type of content that teenagers observe is more crucial than where you observe it.

The researchers found that young people benefit from observing material that promotes empathy and optimism, in contrast to violence and aggression.

If you watch a video with your child and show something questionable, experts don't say silent, because that could mean that it is okay.

“We even have to speak quickly and say, oh, I don't know if that was okay, or I don't like it, we don't, we don't do that in our family, a way that cannot be done on the screen,” said Dr. Mitch Prinstein from the American Psychological Association.

Experts point out that young people are particularly susceptible because their brain still develops their ability to pause and think about acting.

“Just when we teach our children how to navigate healthy foods in a sea of food, we now have to teach them how they can navigate in the media,” said Dr. Tara Narula, Chief Medical Correspondent from ABC.

The study encourages adults to be digital role models to learn more about influencers that their teenager follows, and learn how important AI plays when choosing videos for your child, which differs from the platform.

“You need to know which platforms work really hard to get your children to safety, and which may only try to continue to stay your children for as long as possible,” said Prinstein.
