Self-identified Sinaloa drug cartel member, which was arrested after the 'terrifying' I-65 shootout

The self-proclaimed Sinaloa cartel drug dealer Joel Cespedes, 35, is in custody after shooting a woman in her car along the I-65 near the 365 exit in Alabama/Tennessee State Line.

Around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, the MPs responded to reports on a shootout on the Interstate.

The victim reported that Cespedes followed her, according to the press release.

According to the victim, Cespedes had called her and asked her to speak to her and threatened to kill her if she had not stopped her vehicle.

When she refused, he allegedly produced a firearm and continued her while driving on the highway.

“The victim managed to record the shattering encounter and called 911, he left the Interstate to find a safe place,” the publication said.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Trooper Calder was in the area and “quickly carried out a traffic stop on Cespedes,” it says.

Sgt. Cary Moore, the deputy Bradley Fontenot and the investigator Martin Evans reacted to the scene in which the likely cause was set up to arrest Cespedes for attempted murder and domestic violence.

During the arrest, the authorities discovered Cespedes in possession of a firearm, several fraudulent ID cards, passports and numerous credit cards that belong to other people.

Cespedes has received additional charges for trade in stolen identities, possession of a firearm through a forbidden person and possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl).

Cespedes is recorded in the Limestone County prison with a payment bond of 2,005,000 US dollars.

“I recommend Trooper Calder, Sgt. Moore, Deputy Fontenot and investigator Evans for their quick response to this hideous crime,” said the Sheriff of Limestone County, Joshua McLaughlin.

“The most important thing is that we are grateful that the victim is safe.”

Anyone who has seen this incident or has additional information was asked to contact the investigator Martin Evans under (256) 232-0111.
