Senators of the state of Rochester weigh in the day without childcare

Rochester, Minn. (KTTC) – Many parents rely on childcare every day. On Monday morning, some families in Minnesota will experience what happens if these services are not available.

Childcare centers, providers and municipalities have a day without childcare to bring about changes and to highlight what they call urgent financing needs.

In some municipalities, childcare is now closed to prove what essential service this is for families and companies.

In other communities, there will be rallies or news conferences in order to make a higher payment of teachers and access to high -quality care for all children and families.

Sen. Liz Boldon (DFL-Rochester) said her goal was that no family pays more than 7% of your income for childcare. She says that the parents are now spending around 30%-50%.

“Many families pay more for childcare than for their rent or mortgage. It is a great burden for many families in the whole state and at the same time the people who do this critically important work, they know how to build up and teach them and develop them, often do not even make a living.

KTTC also turned to Sen. Carla Nelson (Rochester) to bring her into the problem. Here is a statement with your thoughts.

“Childcare is one of the problems that bring us all- everyone wants them to be affordable and qualitatively high, no matter which side of the Ganges they fall. Child supervisors do an incredible job; We trust them to our babies, and that's not a little matter. That's why I worked hard to get more support on your way, such as scholarships for families, grants for providers who have problems, and urge to open more places for children you need. Child supervisors play a crucial role. We have to keep an eye out for you and the families to whom you serve. “

In Rochester, Mayor Kim Norton and city council members will have a discussion in the “Civic League Day” kindergarten on the southwestern side of the city.

It starts at 9:45 a.m.
