Senior official in China's city of Tianjin, which was examined in the corruption examination

The HR head of the Communist Party in the northern Chinese port of Tianjin is faced with a corruption examination, said the country's top anti-graft agency on Thursday.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said Zhou Derui, 59, head of the party organization of the Tianjin Party Organization, is investigated suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law”. A standard euphemism for corruption.

His fall was announced only two days after the end of the annual meeting of national legislation and the best political consulting committees – an event that is known together as “two sessions”.

The announcement means that he is the ninth civil servant who was classified at Vice Ministry level this year or is being examined.

Zhou spent most of his political career in his home province of Hunan, where he became a party secretary of Changde City in 2017.

He became Tianjin's publicity leader in 2021 and became the personnel leader of the local party the following year.
