Severe weather threat in St. Patrick's Day celebrations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge

The celebrations for St. Patrick's Day in South Louisiana were postponed this weekend due to the risk of strong winds and possible tornados.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are expected to move over Southeast -Louisiana on Saturday at 7 a.m. and until Sunday morning. These storms could create dangerous winds, large hail and tornados.

Half of Southeast -Louisiana, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge, is below a level 4 or a moderate risk of storm, which means that widespread storms are likely. The other half is below one level 3 or an improved risk, which means that numerous heavy storms are possible.

In New Orleans, the Irish Channel Parade planned for Saturday afternoon was moved. The organizers of the Parade said they were working with the city to find another date.

At the time of this writing, The annual Wiener Dog Racing event If an employee said to WWNO on Saturday. The argument and the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Metairie will roll on Sunday.

In Baton Rouge, the 40th annual “Wearin 'of the Green Parade” was pushed back to Sunday at 12 noon.
