Since the meteorological winter ends slightly, Philadelphia will start with spring

Finally we close the books for the winter of 2024-2025. Saturday is the meteorological beginning of spring. While Philadelphia will see a mild end of winter, the area can expect a wild start to spring.

The average temperature this winter season was the coldest in a decade. Incredible, with all this cold air we had less than half of our normal snowfall.

We should have had 18.8 by March 1st Centimeter of snowBut only 8.1 inches have fallen, which is below average 10.7 inches. Yes, we were still able to see a monster snowfall in March, but at the moment the pattern favors the snow all week.

Ironically, we end this last month of winter above average with heights in the 1950s. However, that will change, and now you have to prepare for a weather room when we go too wild from mild.

March comes more like a lamb this weekend. Another pressure on polar air leads to a 25-degree decline from the highs near 60 in the early Saturday afternoon to the mid-1930s on Sunday afternoon.

Plan on Sunday to deal with all the winter equipment. It will be dry but stormy when winds of up to 30 miles per hour gust, which creates wind cold in the teenager and 20s.

A strong spring storm system will cross the area next week. As a warm front north of Philadelphia, the funny south winds will increase our temperatures to the 1960s on Wednesday.

The big warm -up follows a strong cold front that could trigger strong thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Colder air arrives behind the front to end the week. The sky will clarify on Thursday and Friday, and the temperatures will return to seasonal levels in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Next weekend there is another chance for showers and storms.

This roller coaster ride of the weather is really no surprise because the three spring months (March, April and May) are the transition months from the winter cold to the summer heat.

Everything is possible in March: cold, heat, snow, rain and thunderstorms that mark the beginning of our convection season.

The potential for our first spring storms in the next week is a memory to wipe off the storm plan for you and your family. Make sure you all know what to do and where to go to work at home, school and work.

On Sunday morning we will also start the start of summer. So remember to drive your watch an hour when you go to bed on Saturday evening.
