Solar power installations tend, Hawaiian electrical reports: Maui now

The number of private solar systems on the roof in Hawaiian Electric's grids continued to grow in 2024. Now almost 114,000 solar systems are installed on the roof on the five islands.

The addition of 7,976 solar systems in 2024, mainly in residential areas, brought the total number of solar systems associated with grids to 113,999, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2023. Solar generation capacity, including residential, commercial and network systems, rose to 1,410 megawatt, an increase of 13% compared to 2023.

“It is encouraging to see that the growth of Solar continues its upward movement, while we work with customers and stakeholders to help Hawai'i reach his clean energy goals,” said Kaiulani Shinsato, co-director of Hawaiian Electric Customer Energy Resources. “In 2024 we introduced a new Smart Renewable Energy program that made it easier for customers to add solar and battery stores on the roof.”

Hawai'i has the highest rates of solar assumption in the nation on the roof. About 26% of Hawaiian Electric's residential customers and 43% of customers in single -family houses have solar on the roof.
