South Carolina drives the strong start of Evans, early gates to win over the citadel

The wind had already taken away a Homerun from Ethan Petry at the beginning of this season, and he didn't want to allow it again.

Two weeks ago Petry hit the midfield in particular in 113 miles per hour, but he stayed in the park when the temperature was in the 30s. He thought he was strong enough to get out of this ball, but couldn't do it.

On Wednesday evening, when the wind blew out of the nearby port of Charleston, Petry got a 0-1 place and crushed a Homer with two runs into the left midfield. Since this was his 48th career home, he tied Hank Small for second place on South Carolinas Homerun list ever.

Petry's first Inning explosion gave the Gamecocks (11-3) an early lead, which they held into the rest of the night, and defeated the citadel 9-1 in Riley Park.

Although wind gusts reached over 20 miles per hour, South Carolina had no problem making good contact. In the third page, Evan Stone combined for his first Homer of the Year, a solo shot that cleared the scoreboard of the left field. Stone took another RBI hit in eighth place and drove into the left center with a double. In his second start in the outdoor field this year he ended 2: 5.

The Gamecocks added two more runs in the fourth when Henry Kaczmar almost hit his second Homer in so many days. His long fly ball took off the top of the right field wall, but he landed on the third basis with an RBI triple. A dough later drove Nathan Hall into the middle with a single.

For most of South Carolina, it was a strong night with five starters who recorded multi-hit games. Both Petry and Beau Hollins went 3-to-5 on the plate. Hall and KJ Scobey also had two goals each.

On the hill that would be the entire run support that Jarvis Evans needed Jr., which made his second start to the season. After the left-hander sounded a few early fights in previous excursions, he put together the longest and perhaps the best performance of his college career.

Evans threw seven innings from one-run ball against the Bulldogs line-up. His longest excursion so far was 5.1 Innerings, which he did twice when he was in Georgia. The lonely run, which was abandoned, came a victim fly in the third after Petry almost made a great diving on the right field line that went off his glove and led to a triple.

Apart from that, Evans was at the best side from start to finish. Not many runners reached the base when he was on the hill because the citadel only started one runner. He only gave up three goals and struck six with two walks.

Next: South Carolina will start a series with three games with Morehead State in Founders Park on Friday evening. The first pitch is at 7 p.m. in the Sec Network Plus.
