Southern firefighters adopt EV fire blanket

The fire brigades Kennbunk and Sanford are now equipped with a new security instrument.

Maine, USA – As electric vehicles (EVS) on streets Maine, fire brigades use new tools to combat the challenges they present in emergencies.

Kindbunk Fire and Rescue recently received an EV fire blanket, a tool with which first aiders should help to contain and delete lithium battery beaches.

EV fire blankets are specially designed in such a way that they are draped via a burning vehicle to isolate flames, contain vapors and prevent the fire from spreading. The Department of Keybunk also received an additional ceiling for training purposes.

Fire chief Justin Cooper emphasized the importance of this new tool and found that EV fires need considerably more water compared to gas-powered vehicle fires.

“A gas -powered vehicle needs about 500 gallons water that makes up about half of the one in the on -board tanks we have. An EV can take 40,000 gallons,” said Cooper. “For example, if a fire occurs in a residential garage, this is a fantastic tool in which we can cover and restrict the fire.”

According to Cooper, both Kennebunk Fire and the city of Sanford received an EV fire blanket thanks to a donation from a local resident.
