Sports violence lands over 150 hooligans in the dock

[Intime News]

A prosecutor has recommended that more than 150 people, including the executives of Top Olympiacos FC, are on trial due to alleged participation in a criminal organization in connection with violent hooliganism.

The report by the Magdalini Kalpakidou public prosecutor describes an “operational structured and active organization” under the name “Gate 7”, which is accused of being accused of crimes and offenses associated with sporting events. The group allegedly used violence to intimidate competitive fans, police and referees.

The indictment is also applied for in court against six people who are accused of orchestrated the fatal attack on the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in December 2023, while 117 other charges are exposed to support for the main attack. The same proposal requests the indictment against Olympiacos President Evangelos Marinakis, the mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, and other club executives to control sports power and support a criminal organization.

Kalpakidou claims that they have financially supported the leaders of the group, even though they know their criminal nature. A judicial council will determine whether the case will be brought to court.
