New York (WABC) – Since New York City is preparing for the 264th St. Patrick's Day Parade, the participants should be ready to navigate numerous road closures.

It is expected that millions are released into the Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The MTA also extends the service companies to absorb the large crowds.

It is considered the largest and oldest parade to St. Patrick's Day in the world. According to the event organizers, an average of 2 million viewers and another 150,000 people who take part in March every year take part.

The first parade took place in Manhattan in 1762.

The celebrations start on Monday at 11 a.m., but the organizers recommend arriving much earlier if the viewers want the best possible view of the march.

The procession begins in the Fifth Avenue in the 44th Street and ends in the 79th Street.
