Start jumping! Kipps Elementary Band learns 'Enter Sandman' in front of the Metallica concert

Blacksburg, va. (WDBJ) – In our home towns, it is impossible not to recognize the reef and the bad bass of Metallica's “Enter Sandman”. The song has become the Virginia Tech tradition, which has rocked Hokie fans and even fifth graders in the three -clock band by Kipps Elementary for over two decades.

“It is really fun to hear every time you start playing. It really puts it on,” said Maya Wilson, a member of the band.

“I think it's really fun,” said Kinsely Rogers, another instrumentalist. “It is really cool, unless they are high and then it is a kind of scary because they feel like they feel flat on their face,” joked Leif Williams.

After the word of the band came to the Lane Stadium and lived with Hokie Nation in a few months, music teacher Glen Chilcote knew that a song student had to learn in the band this year.

The trade with guitars for the Marimba, the same riffs and the banging bass of 'Inter Sandman' can be heard on Thursday afternoon all over Kipps Elementary.

“We started this song in January, and after about 3 rehearsals and our rehearsals are about 45 minutes a piece, the students really had it down,” said Chilcote. “You may not know anything about Mozart or Beethoven … But you all know that 'penetrates Sandman' and Metallica, even before you get into these doors.”

“I thought it was cool. As if it had a mysterious feeling, and I like it, ”said the student Amber Yang.

“It is really cool, it was a little challenging at first and then we got better and better,” said Williams. “Yes, it was difficult at first, but then it was easy when we did more and more,” said Rogers.

Now that the three clock gang has perfected in Sandman, she hopes that the real deal will come to check the song.

“I have the feeling that it would be a really good thing if we can come here and see what we can do,” said Wilson. “It would also be really cool if we could go, maybe hang out with them in the Lane Stadium and make an opening song for you.”

“It was a lot of fun. We worked a lot on it and I think it sounds really good, so I would like to let metallica come, ”added Isaac Camacho.

Metallica will come on May 7th as part of the M72 World Tour of the Bands Stadium.
