Staton's record night is increasing the Raiders to the HL quarter-finals

Dayton – – Amaya Staton Had a record night when the Wright State Women's Basketball team Youngstown State defeated in the first round of the Barbasol Horizon League Championship 2025 73-58. With 27 rebounds, Staton broke the WSU program record, the HL championship record and the single-game rebound record of 2025 NCAA Division I. It also agreed with the HL-all-time-play return record.

The Raiders will enter a tournament quarter -finals on Thursday, March 6th at 7 p.m.

Wright State (10-21) ended the shooting of 42.6 percent from the field, 43.5 percent of three and 84.6 percent on the free-wing line. In addition to her record-breaking back rash, Staton headed the team with 17 points and paid their ninth double double of the season. Claire Henson And Lauren Scott Connected to the double figure rating and record 12 and 10 points each. Makiya Miller added nine points for the Raiders, while Ryle Sagester and Macie Taylor eight added. Henson led the team with four templates, followed by Olivia Brown With three.

Wright State recorded four blocks, with Staton three and Miller made a contribution. Brown led the team in Steals with four in the evening, followed by Staton with two and Miller with one.

The Raiders opened with a 9-2 run by two Staton layups, a Layup from Henson and a Sagester three pointer when the penguins used two shots on the line. Ysu lowered the lead with almost four minutes in the first quarter of 12-11. Taylor presented a three with less than a minute. Ysu replied with a layup, but a buzzer that hit a buffer outside of Scott's color added a four-point buffer after the period 17-13.

Staton reached two figures in the rebound in the first quarter and won 11 boards – more than the doubling of Ysu of five.

The WSU went into the second quarter and increased its advantage to double-digit double positions with an 11-0 run in the first three minutes. The run began with three Showers of Miller and Sagester, followed by a Layup from Staton. Scott then added a quick jumper from Deep and expanded the lead to 28-13. The teams exchanged baskets in the next three minutes, whereby the Ysu WSU exceeded 11: 4 when Miller added a layup and sagester two free throws with 32-24. Wright State closed the second quarter with Layups by Riddle and Staton, three-point of Ellie Magestero-Kennedy and Scott and two free throws from Taylor to bring a lead of 44: 28.

The Penguins enforced the WSU in the third quarter with 18: 10 when Staton led the team with five points, followed by Henson with a jumper from Deep and Chloe Chard Peloquin With a layup. Staton achieved eight rebounds in the third to be just two rebounds from the WSU program record of 25 rebounds in one game that Margie Coate against Ohio Wesleyan (February 1, 1975) presented 50 years earlier.

Wright State opened the last quarter with a 10: 3 run, each of a layup from Henson, Scott and Staton, one of Taylor, and by Henson and Miller with a 17-point lead of 66: 49. Ysu lowered the advantage with less than three minutes to 11, but Henson sank a layup and made it a three-point game in the line, 71-57. The penguins put a shot on the line, but Olivia Brown scored the last points of the night with two free throws, 73-58.

Staton secured her last four rebounds in the last few minutes and grabbed one at 2:15. She tied the program record with 80 seconds ahead and then broke him a little more than a minute before the Summer. With 30 seconds they remain their 27th board and agreed to the HL single game record.

Youngstown State (12-19) ended the shooting of 40.4 percent from the ground, 36.4 percent of three and 66.7 percent on the line. Three penguins achieved a double rating when Haley Thierry and Jewel Watkins each added 14 points, followed by Sophia Gregory with 13 points. The penguins had 26 rebounds and four blocks, and Gregory led the team to nine rebounds and two blocks.
