Stricker Breaks Wiac Record, Blugolds in dispute at NCAA Regional

Minneapolis – Jared Stricker (Sr.-High Bridge, Wis./Ashland) was the leader of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for Career victory when the wrestling team of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire opened the tournament of the NCAA Division III region VII on Friday.

Stricker achieved the 162nd victory of his career in the first round to break the record of 161 by Ryan Allen by UW-La Crosse in 2006. It highlighted a strong day for the blugolds, which still have all 10 wrestlers for a trip to the NCAA championships that were moved on Saturday at the end of the tournament on the day of the tournament.

The Blugolds are in third place in the team classification with 84.5 points. They only appear Augsburg (108.5) and UW-La Crossen (102).

How it happened

  • Zach Sato (Sr. – Oswego, Ill.), Preston Carlisle (Jr. – Red Wing, Minn./Cannon Falls), Stricker, Niall Schoenfelder (Sr. – Antiochia, Ill.) And Ian Pepple (Sun. – Hastings, Minn.) You all have against regional titles in your respective brackets.
  • Sato had an bye in the first round of the 149 pound clip. He won the technical fall in the quarter -finals to come to the semi -finals, where he will wrestle Concordia Moorheads Aidan Ruddy on Saturday.
  • Carlisle also had an bye in the first round. He won his only game of the day with the first PIN to get to the 165-pound semi-final on Saturday, where he competes against UW-La Crosse's Tanner Gerber.
  • Stricker used a few pens to reach the 174 pound semi-final. Both came in less than a minute and 20 seconds. He will compete in the semi-finals on Saturday against Carson's defiance of UW-Stevens Point. He is looking for the third regional title of his career. Stricker not only became the Wiac winner of all time, but also caused his career pencils to 74. It is now in third place in the all -time rating of the conference for pens and is at a striking distance of 78.
  • Schoenfelder scored a few victories in the 184 pound clip to move into the semi-finals. He won his rendering game 8-1 and won his quarter-finals with a 10-0 main decision. He will wrestle in the semi -finals on Saturday.
  • Pepple reached the 197-pound semi-final with two wins on Friday. He started in two minutes until autumn and added a 7-8 decision victory in the quarter-finals. He will compete in the Parker Venz in Semis against Augsburg on Saturday.
  • Of the blugolds who have lost a match in the championship class, everyone is still a trip to the Nationals through wrestling bakes. Izzy Balsiger (Jr. – Chippewa Falls, Wis.), Travis Moelter (So. – River Falls, Wis.), Finn Bloomquist (Fr. – Prior Lake, Minn.), Landon Church (Sun. – Jordan, Minn./Scott West) and Sloan what (Sun. – Arpin, Wis./aburndale) will wrestle in the Trostviertel -Finals on Saturday.
