Summary: No. 22 Memphis overcomes the slow start to blow up the FAU

Memphi's basketball looked a bit sluggish after a week, but still jumped back from his angry loss in the state of Wichita.

The Tiger (22-5, 12-2 AAC) beat the Florida Atlantic 84-65 in FedExforum on Sunday. The victory gives Memphis a season -Weep from FAU, since the Tiger also met the owls in Boca Raton last month. Penny Hardaway's Club is the next Rice on Wednesday (7 p.m., ESPN+).

No. 22 Memphis shot a total of 47% and 26% on 3 pointers. It also exceeded FAU 44-33, while he recorded 17 assists, 16 offensive boards, 12 forced sales, 9 steals and 8 blocks. The Tigers scored 52 paint points, 24 points from sales and 19 points of the second chance compared to 28, 8 and 4 for the owls.

John Jakus' Team (15-12, 8-6 AAC) scored 43% on field gates and 40% on the 3-point line. In addition, 12 assists, 12 offensive rebounds, 10 forced sales, 4 blocks and 4 steals were put together. Memphis recovers from bad shooting begins

Memphis illuminated the FAU in its first meeting with a 56% shooting clip, but the owls played much more stinging this time – at least at the beginning.

The tigers only met two of their first 12 shots from the field. Seven of these mistakes came out of the arch, with three of them classified by Statbroadcast as layups.

But Memphis drove 46% for the rest of the first half and used a 14-0 run to lead the FAU up to 8 points in the period. The tigers had an advantage of 37-32 at halftime.

Dink Yates comes to play

The 6-foot 5 walk-on did not play much against the FAU, but still offered the tigers an urgently needed spark.

Yates checked in the first half at 1:15 p.m., with Memphis 9-4 behind. The Tigers exceeded the FAU in the next five minutes and 32 seconds with 14: 11 before they were switched off again with 7:43.

He collected 2 points, 2 templates, a rebound and theft in seven minutes.

Dain Dainja and PJ Haggerty Manhandle Fau

Public address announcer Geoff Mack's thundering roar by “Dainja, Dainja, Dainja”, paired with “danger” of mystic, was repeated countless times on Sunday.

Dainja and namesake of Mack's wild singing-dominated FAU with 22 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals at 8-against-13 shooting. In the first four minutes of the period, he scored 9 of his 11 points in the second half. Haggerty missed four of his first five shots, but ended with 22 points (11 out of 17 from the field) and 6 rebounds. Dainja and Haggerty scored 25 of Memphis '47 points in the last 20 minutes.

Colby Rogers jumped back from his 2-of-8 excursion in the state of Wichita with 15 points on 3-against-6 perimeter shooting. Tyrese Hunter had 9 points, 8 assists, 3 rebounds and a template.
