Summary: Slow and undisciplined start, Listless Play Dooms-Capitals in 3-1 against lightning

Picture

The Washington Capitals sat 3-1 against Tampa Bay Lightning in a matinee on Saturday afternoon, where a slower and undisciplined start with emotional games led the entire game to the loss. It is the first time that the capitals fall over three in a row throughout the season.

The first period was another slow start for Washington, and the undisciplined game didn't help. The punishments of Ovechkin, Dubois and Wilson gave Tampa three power opportunities, whereby the bolts could benefit from Mitchell Chaffee for a 1-0 lead.

Speaking of punishments, a potential capital goal in the first period was called back for a missed game, since the puck was previously played by Chychrun with a high stick.

The second period was better for Washington, although they still didn't defeat Andrei Vasilevskiy. The capitals managed to play a more coherent and organized game and get a few good chances, but were ultimately unable to solve Vasilevskiy.

Washington led a few more chances in the third period, but the listless game continued for large parts of this time. Gage Goncalves gave Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the third, which did not do much for the ability of the capitals to build dynamics.

Later in the third, a broken game in the high-slot in front of Vasilevskiy led to Alex Ovechkins 884. Career gate and gave the capitals an urgently needed dynamic and something that the fans could cheer.

Unfortunately, this momentum would not take long, as a poorly played puck from Dylan Stromen led to a Brandon Hagel empties to seal the game for Tampa.

The capitals are back in action against the Ottawa senators on Monday evening.
